The Chase Cain Foundation is proud to announce that this is the sixth year of our scholarship program.  Each year an  scholarship is given to a deserving graduating Senior from Eastside High School, Alcovy High School, Newton County High School and announcing this year an additional scholarship.  The "At Large" scholarship will be given to a Newton County resident attending any private school. The student is asked to write a short essay answering the following question:  “What I have done and what I plan to do to make a difference in my community?”  We have awarded the scholarship in the past to very well qualified (and well deserved students) who we know will help their community in the future. Should you be interested in applying for the Chase Cain Memorial Scholarship, please download the form on this page.  Your guidance counselor will submit all requests and the Foundation Board Members will choose the winner based on the essays.  Please send the completed form and essay to the foundation address, 130 Taynard Ct, Newborn, GA 30056. The Scholarships are due by March 22, 2010. The scholarship winner will be announced at Honors Day festivities at the end of the year.

1st Recipient of the Chase Cain Memorial Scholarship...Kristen Goff

I can not begin to say how much it meant to me to receive Chase’s Scholarship. Chase was an amazing person and a great friend to me and so many other people. It was such an honor to receive this scholarship in his name. I am not sure how happy Chase would have been that I chose to attend the University of Georgia, but I think he would be proud of what I have done.  I graduated high school in May 2005, and then I began the Freshman College Summer Experience in July 2005 at the University of Georgia. This was a great opportunity for me to get to know new people, learn my way around the UGA campus, get a taste of what college classes are like, and to learn more about the Athens community. Some of the things that I have been involved with since then include: University of Georgia Hoop Girls for two years, volunteer at Gaines Elementary School, Whit Davis Elementary School, County Line Elementary School, and the Boys and Girls Club of Athens. I was also a participant relations committee member for Dance Marathon, which is a part of the Children’s Miracle Network and Wishmakers on Campus, which is UGA’s affiliate with the Make a Wish Foundation. I have been involved with the big brother/big sister program for three and a half years now. This program pairs students with children in poverty. I have a “little brother” who I have watched learn and grow. I hope I have made a difference in his life because I know he has made a difference in mine. I also currently teach aerobics and cycling at the Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities. I was accepted into the College of Education in Fall 2006, and I began the Early Childhood Education program in Spring 2007. Since then, I have been on the Dean’s List (3.5-3.9 GPA) two of the three semesters, and I received the Presidential Scholar (4.0 GPA) the other semester. I plan to graduate in December of 2008 and begin working on my master’s degree in Early Childhood Education in January of 2009. I am trying to keep my options open, but there is a very strong possibility that I will return to Newton County to teach and raise a family.                                                               ~Kristen Goff~
